Finding Dory- Pre-Movie Expectations

Finding Dory has some big shoes to fill. Ever since Finding Nemo was released back in 2003, fans have been begging for a sequel about our favorite forgetful fish, Dory. If you have been following this movie as closely as I have been, you would know that the release date kept getting pushed back and back as time went on. Animators stalled as they tried to put together a movie that served justice to all of the Dory fans begging for a second movie. And here it is,  less than a week away and it's finally here. Before I go and see the film though, I thought it was only appropriate to make a list of my expectations for this film. The Dory inside of all of us has been waiting for this for thirteen years, and it's finally happening. Here's my list of Finding Dory expectations.

  • A113- If you have ever noticed that this string of numbers and letters seem to appear a lot in Pixar movies, that's because it does. If you are unaware, A113 is the famous classroom number from The California Institute of the Arts, where many of the Pixar animators (John Laseter, Pete Doctor, just to name a few) studied animation. It's very common to see this number in Pixar movies on license plates, courtroom numbers, animal tags, train car numbers, and many more incidences. It can even be found in movies like Lilo & Stitch, The Simpsons, or The Hunger Games. I'm on the lookout for this for sure.
  • Returning characters from Finding Nemo- Although we know that Marlin and Nemo play a big part in Dory's adventures, I  wonder who else will join them in their adventures in the big blue sea? Will Bruce and his fellow vegetarians come into play? The tank crew? Mr. Ray? Crush? Darla? We are just going to have to wait and see.
  • The Pizza Planet Truck- The pizza planet truck is another Pixar staple that I expect to spot at least once or twice. It's, again, in almost every single Pixar movie ever, making it's debut as Buzz and Woody's mode of transportation after getting lost at the Dinoco gas station to get back to Andy. We are definitely keeping our eye out for this one.
  • Hank- Hank is a salmon colored octopus that aids Dory in her adventures to find her family. We see him in trailers, on posters, and in advertisements for the movie, so we already know that he makes a significant impact on the movie. Is he a hero? Or maybe he's a secret villain? Who knows?
  • The Utah Teapot, John Ratzenberger, and other Pixar easter eggs- To see a full list of Pixar easter eggs that are expected to be in Finding Dory, make sure to check out SuperCarlinBrothers' fantastic video, Top Ten Things To Look For In Finding Dory. It goes into great detail on what to look for and is very informative for Pixar fans alike. There are so many Pixar inside jokes we will need to watch for, I couldn't even list them all for you.
  • "I need a wrench- I can fix it."- In the latest trailer, we see Dory sleep-swimming and talking in her sleep before she wanders off into the ocean. This may, or, may not be an nod to our favorite peppy handyman, Fix-It Felix Jr. Although we unsure why they chose to include this if it doesn't relate to an up and coming film, or, frankly, isn't even Pixar, but we will enjoy this fun phrase nonetheless.
  • "Hello?"- The first word we hear in the most recent trailer starts off with a young Dory, lost, and trying to find a friend to help her find her family. This sad moment is obviously pinnacle and something to listen for in the film.

  • Disney's first gay couple(?)- Ever since the release of Finding Dory's trailer, there has been talk by fans that these two women featured in the movie, could be Disney's first gay couple. Although not confirmed by the director, it is a definite possibility! We see them with a baby in a stroller, so it's not completely out of the question. You will have to go see the film and let me know what you think.
A few more predictions:
  • Dory's Family (since we know it's about her finding them)
  • Some sort of aquarium facility or marine biology lab (hence the reason why dory goes from the ocean with Nemo and Marlin, to a tank with Hank)
  • Fantastic animation
  • P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney
  • The luxo ball
  • Maybe a Little Mermaid reference? Both Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid are very successful Disney films, so I wouldn't be surprised if Flounder swam behind Dory just passing by.
  • Great storytelling
Keep a lookout for these expectations, and more, when Finding Dory hits theaters June 17th! Have a magical day!✨
